about the competition

our vision for 2o24

Carolina Case Challenge has grown a lot in 6 years. In this time, it’s also represented a passion for learning, innovation, and growth among students, professionals, and the community alike. This year, we’re focusing more than ever on our people and the connections between us – and we invite you to join us.

CCC2024 will be full of opportunities for students and sponsors to interact as teams in an academic environment, peers in a professional environment, and companions in the spirit of friendly competition. Participants will have opportunities to meet others from across the country and build a support network that goes beyond these 3 days and friendships that last a lifetime.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

CCC2024 Format and Competition Details

COMPETITION FORMAT

The case component for CCC2024 is a day long case that will help address the needs of a real corporate client, to be announced. Representatives from both the client and Insight Sourcing Group consultants will serve as judges for the competition.

Scrimmage case

Before the full day of competition, we will have a social event and shuffle participants to make teams of students from different schools. These teams will compete in a mini-case about a local business - and is another opportunity to win prizes!

Additional Programming

Competing teams have many opportunities to connect and network with their peers and firm representatives. This includes a social event/scrimmage case on Thursday evening, an exclusive Networking Firm Dinner with the Insight Sourcing Group on Friday evening, and an Awards Ceremony Luncheon on Saturday, along with informal breaks and meetings throughout the weekend.

WINNERS & PRIZES

1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams in the main competition will receive shares of an overall $2000 cash prize. Smaller prizes will also be awarded to winners of the scrimmage case and superlative competitors. All cash prizes are distributed within two weeks post-competition and evenly distributed amongst each member on the team.

LOCATION & DATES

All events and programing associated with CCC2024 will be held in-person in Chapel Hill, NC and at the Kenan-Flagler Business School from April 18th-April 20th.

Official Application, rulebook, and rubric

All applications must be submitted by 2/16, will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and teams will be selected based off the quality of application materials by the Executive Committee and Kenan-Flagler representatives. Rulebook will be updated and posted closer to the event; copies of the 2023 documents are included here for reference.

FAQ

Below we answer logistical and specific questions potential participants may have. Please reach out to our team at ccc@kenan-flagler.unc.edu for any additional information.

Is my school/team eligible for the competition?

CCC is open to undergraduates from any accredited college or university. Teams may have a maximum of one “senior” (students in their last year of undergrad), but there are no other restrictions on who may be considered to compete.

Are there any fees to participate in CCC?

No, there is no fee to participate, though it is participants’ responsibility to ensure they are present for the competition and cover any associated costs.

Can multiple teams from the same university/organization compete?

Yes! We evaluate team applications on the merit of the individuals, not on whether they are all part of the same student organization, and multiple teams from the same school are welcome to compete.

Does CCC cover transportation and lodging costs?

No, transportation and hotels are the financial responsibility of the participating universities and/or students. We will provide a list of the hotel options nearby, and public transportation once you are in Chapel Hill is very accessible. CCC does provide all meals and other perks during the events to make your time here as enjoyable as can be. We recommend students reach out to their university departments for guidance as to funding the institution may provide.

How is COVID-19 going to factor in?

The competition will be in-person as well as additional in-person programming. We will follow all COVID-19 precautions set by the UNC system as well as the broader Orange County Government.

Masks will not be required, but all attendees are welcome to wear them if they choose and everyone will be expected to respect others’ decisions. We are committed to providing an enriching and safe experience for all of our participants.

How will the Insight Sourcing Group be involved?

The Insight Sourcing Group has generously agreed to sponsor our event which will entail them being present as our judges. Along with this participants will have an opportunity to meet our Insight Sourcing Group reps during our networking dinner.
